Chess traditions in Chartres

Each move that strengthens human intelligence and connection is already a win. I now see the definition of “victory” this way.

Under the influence of my academic experience, I’ve started to perceive chess from a very different perspective: in a time when there is a growing tendency to outsource one’s own thinking — a tendency that needs to be countered — the old game becomes a safe space to revive the Enlightenment motto: dare to use your own mind.

Yesterday’s event organised by the C’Charteres Chess Club highlighted all of the above, with a special emphasis on maintaining the tradition of intergenerational exchange of experience, direct learning from human to human, and the significance of community.
